ASHINGTON FESTIVAL 2021.

Thousands flocked to Ashington Festival on Saturday for what was a fantastic day for everyone.

The weather was good apart from a couple of showers and that didn’t stop anyone as people just wanted to be out and see friends and family they hadn’t seen for a long time and to enjoy themselves.

The day started with the Carnival Procession led by the Medina Band, and Ashington Carnival Princess 2021 Zarah Jagota age 6 and her 2 attendants Hannah and Charlotte Hoare age 7 and her 2 page boys Arthur Howells and Ethan Mahaffy both age 7, all children attend Ashington C of E Primary School. Along with decorated floats there were walking groups, and individuals in fancy dress parading through the village followed by vintage cars and vehicles. There were joint winners of the carnival floats which were Jude’s Mob as ‘Escape from Lockdown’ and The Nicholson family as ‘Penn’s Toy Story’. With Kazzies Kids as ‘2020 what a load of toilet’ as second place and in third place was the Hope Kids as ‘The Wizard of Oz’. The winners of the walking groups were first place ‘Ashington Youth Club does Sister Act’ second place was Anita’s friends and family as ‘Inflatable Wild West’ and third place went to the Lawson family as ‘Jurassic Park’.

On the recreation ground was a lot of different craft and charity stalls, a car boot sale, a classic car show, a fun dog show kindly sponsored by Arun Vets and of course Ashington’s own Harris’s funfair and others.

The arena acts included two shows from the brilliant ’Stallions of Substance’ kindly sponsored by Sussex Equestrian Hospital and with them performing in the arena was the Medina Marching Band, and the Rhythm and Sole Dance Troupe. There was a chance for children to join in with the children’s games and a Tug of War competition with the adults as well.

There was no shortage of tasty food either, burgers, chips, hot dogs, Thai food, Pizzas, candy floss and ice cream to name but a few. There was also be a licenced bar and a Pimm’s tent.

On stage the evening entertainment was kindly sponsored by Cubitt & West Ashington , ‘The Smileys’ were be back by popular request playing music through the decades. Also returning to Ashington Diane James singing songs we all know and love. First time to Ashington Festival the crowd welcomed Mike Nova AKA Elvis and Ken Dee, a comedy female impersonator who had the crowd laughing all the time.

At 10pm was a spectacular firework display followed by a great disco to finish off the brilliant day.

ASHINGTON FESTIVAL, SATURDAY 21st AUGUST 2021, A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY.

We are back! What a year we have all had so let’s celebrate in style of hopefully being back to normal. The festival committee have organised a brilliant day for everyone, so let’s have a good one.

The day will of course kick off with the Carnival Procession at 1.30pm led by the Medina Band, and Ashington Carnival Princess 2021 Zarah Jagota age 6 and her 2 attendants Hannah and Charlotte Hoare age 7 and her 2 page boys Arthur Howells and Ethan Mahaffy both age 7, all children attend Ashington C of E Primary School. Along with other decorated floats there will be walking groups, and individuals in fancy dress parading through the village. The carnival will be interspersed with vintage cars to add interest and colour. This year we are introducing the ‘Battle of the Roads’ or challenge your friends and family for the best entry of a carnival float or a walking group.
Money prizes will be given for the overall winners.

As the carnival arrives on the recreation ground at approximately 2.30pm, they will be greeted by many different stalls, a car boot sale, a classic car show, a fun dog show kindly sponsored by Arun Vets and of course our own Harris’s funfair.

Our programme is designed to have something for everyone to enjoy, be they young, old or in the middle. So mark the date in your diary, come along and enjoy the day with us.

ASHINGTON FESTIVAL, A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY.

This year Ashington Festival falls on 15th August 2020 which coincidentally is also the 75th anniversary of VJ Day.  To help us mark this important date in history, we have the wonderful Diane James singing many of the WW11 songs we know so well.

The day will of course kick off with the Carnival Procession at 1.30pm led by the Medina Band, our Carnival Princess, attendants and page boys, along with other decorated floats.  There will be walking groups, a stilt walker and individuals in fancy dress parading through the village.  The carnival will be interspersed with vintage cars to add interest and colour.

As the carnival arrives on the recreation ground at approximately 2.30pm, they will be greeted by many different stalls, a car boot sale, a classic car show, a fun dog show sponsored by Arun Vets and of course our own Harris’s funfair.

The arena acts will include two shows by Galloping Acrobatics, a show of Equestrian Razzle Dazzle and a performance by the Medina Band.

There will be no shortage of food either, burgers, chips, hot dogs, Thai food, Pizzas, candy floss and ice cream to name but a few. There will also be a licenced bar.

On stage The Smileys will be back by popular request, Tom Foolery who is Ashington’s favourite children’s entertainer, Mike Nova AKA Elvis and Ken Dee, a comedy female impersonator.
